is something you don't see so often. Mother and daughter performe together on a stage in an art setting.
Mother has been a protester all her life and in 2014 she and Johanna startet Cellarcube, a place for art and society with focus on the art that talks about social and political issues. Her method is repetions and insisting pations.
Johanna Zwaig works with flamenco songs, both as a form of resistance and as a means to connect and unite. The songs she sings have been learnt from Andalusian Gitanos. Conscious about the flamenco songs’ roots in hard times, she connects the songs with symbolically charged actions and objects, in light of different political contexts. Many of her performances are ‘long-durational’ and repetitive, motivated by the potentially insisting protest aspect of repetition, and her wish to create concentrated rooms for reflection.
She has studied performing arts and flamenco in Paris, Madrid, Sevilla and Jerez de la Frontera and holds a BA in Art History and Theatre Studies from the University of Oslo. Her performances have taken place in Dublin, Poland, Paris, as well as at the National Annual Autumn Exhibition, the Munch Museum, the Stenersen Museum and in front of the Stortinget (the Paliament) in Oslo, the Henie Onstad Art Center at Høvikodden, Kunsthall 3,14 in Bergen and at the Stavanger Art Museum.
